Supraśl - meandering tributary of the Narew

The width of the river is from 3m in the upper course to 20m at the mouth to the Narew. The average depth is not less than 0.5m. The river valley is mostly more or less intensively used meadows. Thanks to the excellent transparency of the water, you can observe lush aquatic vegetation, fish, and depending on the time of year, numerous birds, most of which are protected species. There are two options for a kayak trip: start in Sokołda and continue on the Supraśl, or sail only on the Supraśl river by kayak and canoe.

First day - flowing down the Supraśl river.

0.0 km - we launch kayaks and start the trip near the bridge near the village of Radunin (in most maps, the incorrect name Radulin appears). Initially, we sail through a narrow, very winding, and sometimes overgrown river. We can observe rich aquatic vegetation and fish in exceptionally clean, transparent water. After passing 1.2 km, the first obstacle - a low-lying bridge under which we can probably sail kayaks. Then we pass the village of Załuki located on the left bank of the river, where there is a possibility of shopping. After the village, on the right bank of the Supraśl, there is a convenient place to stop in the shade of a magnificent oak, behind which there is a pine forest. At 3.3 km of the trip, we encounter another footbridge, this time it is necessary to get out and carry the kayak or canoe.

5.2 km - we sail under the road bridge near the village of Nowosiółki. Just before it, on the right side, a small gazebo is visible. This is also a convenient place to launch kayaks and start the trip if you want to shorten the route a bit. The upper section of the Supraśl river may be, especially at low water levels, overgrown and narrow. Despite this, we recommend sailing it. At 6.0 km of the kayak trip, we encounter two wooden bridges at the village of Nowosiółki, located on the left bank. The river meanders very strongly here, alternately approaching and moving away from the village, where there is a grocery store. After the village, a sawmill and about 300m to the right, a hunting blind are visible. After Nowosiółki, the river becomes clearly wider and less overgrown.

8.3 km - the first permanent water obstacle on the kayak route. Depending on the water level, you can sail through it, but be careful not to stop right after it. There are backwaters here and a possibility of taking water into the kayak or canoe. The water is dammed using wooden planks inserted between metal posts. At 13.7 km of the kayak trip, on the left bank of the river, on a bend, there is a convenient place to stop near a birch-spruce forest. We can get out of the kayaks and have a meal, easily accessible firewood.

15.4 km - the mouth of the Sokołda river. This is where people who decided to sail the Sokołda-Supraśl route start their kayak trip. From this place, the river becomes clearly wider and deeper, with more accessible banks and a closer growing forest. On the right side, about 0.5 km away, the buildings of the "Ritowisko" agritourism farm are visible. Sailing further, we encounter several places suitable for setting up a potential campsite.

20.3 km - we sail under the road bridge near the village of Nowosiółki. Just before it, on the right side, a small gazebo is visible. This is also a convenient place to launch kayaks and start the trip if you want to shorten the route a bit. 22.6 km - on the left bank, a cluster of birches, easily accessible firewood, and an excellent place for a campsite and a fire.

23.4 km - on the kayak route, we encounter a distinct, permanent water obstacle. We carry kayaks and canoes here, rather on the left bank of the river. After the obstacle, the river is narrower. After about 3 km, we see the town of Supraśl and the magnificent building of the monastery. We enter Supraśl and sail past the recreational center on the left bank.

28.1 km - a permanent concrete water obstacle at the height of the beach. Kayak carrying is necessary. A convenient place to get out of the kayaks and go to the nearby shops. In Supraśl, it is worth stopping for a longer time to explore this charming town, which includes the Icon Museum, or to have a meal. The kayak route leads further near the buildings located on the left, steep bank. Sailing past the water gauge, we notice behind it the building of the directorate of the Knyszyńska Forest Landscape Park. We pass Supraśl and sail under the road bridge on the Białystok-Krynki route. About 1 km after the bridge, on the left side, we pass the place called "Patelnią". The remains of a campsite are visible, and there is a very convenient bathing area. Further on, we pass another recreational center and sail out of the Knyszyńska Forest Landscape Park.

34.6 km - we sail past a campsite with covered tables and benches. After it, a high pine forest and a very gentle bank. An excellent place for a bathing area and overnight stay or a longer stop, one of the most beautiful on the kayak route. We propose ending the second day of the kayak trip here, especially if we spent more time in Supraśl.

Third day - flowing down the Supraśl river.

38.9 km - we sail just before the left-bank tributary of the small Pilnica river. Before the tributary, the bank is easily accessible, and there is a place to stop. On the right, in the distance, the village of Dąbrówki is visible. At 42.3 km of the kayak trip, we encounter a large water obstacle right at the bridge in the village of Nowodworce, and carrying is necessary.

45.4 km - a road bridge in Wasilków. Just before the bridge, on the right bank, there is a wooden jetty and a possibility to get out of the kayaks and make purchases in a shop about 50m away. After the bridge, we enter an artificially created lagoon. The riverbed branches out, its main part flows to the right, and on the left side, we sail through a shallow and overgrown lagoon. After 300m, the riverbeds meet before the weir, which highly dams the water. Kayak carrying is necessary on the right bank.

48.2 km - the kayak route leads under the railway bridge on the Białystok-Suwałki route. After the bridge, a barely visible underwater stone threshold. After about 400m, we reach an open meadow on the left bank of the river, where we can set up a campsite.

50.0 km - a road bridge on the Białystok-Augustów route. Before the bridge, a gentle bank and a beach, which on weekends is a crowded place. After getting out of the kayak and going left, we can reach a shop and a bar. After the bridge, on the left bank, the villages of Sielachowskie and Osowicze are visible. 2 km after Osowicze, we reach the village of Leńce. Before the bridge, on the left side, there is a convenient place for bathing, also for children. We can end the third day of the kayak trip here, although open meadows dominate here.

Fourth day - flowing down the Supraśl river.

54.5 km - the Supraśl riverbed briefly branches out, surrounding a small island; the right one with protruding poles sails past the already inactive mill, so it is definitely easier to sail kayaks and canoes through the left riverbed. After another 2 kilometers, we pass one of the water intakes for Białystok on the left side.

57.8 km - the kayak route leads under the bridge on the Fasty-Knyszyn road. On the right side, the village of Dobrzyniewo Fabryczne. Before the bridge, a small island. It doesn't matter which side we sail around it.

58.0 km - a weir that highly dams the water, and we have to carry kayaks and canoes. After the weir, the riverbed is narrower, shallower, and overgrown with high reeds on both sides. The current is rapid on a certain section. 0.5 km after the weir, on the right side, we see the church in Dobrzyniewo Kościelne and a bit to the right of it, a 333m high television mast in Krynice. On the left side, at a distance of several kilometers, the district of Białystok - Fasty is visible. At the end of the approximately 1-kilometer straight section after the weir, on the right, two trees with stork nests on the tops are visible. The construction of nests by storks on trees is an extremely rare phenomenon. The Supraśl riverbed has become deeper, but unexpectedly very narrow. We have the feeling of sailing in a narrow tunnel.

61.2 km - the kayak route leads under the bridge on the Białystok-Ełk road. Before it, we sail past the regulated, wide mouth of the Biała river flowing through Białystok on the left side. From this place, the Supraśl river widens significantly. After the bridge, on the left side, a "no mooring" sign is visible, although it's not very clear where you could get out of the kayaks, as the bank is extremely unpleasant.

61.4 km - a railway bridge on the Białystok-Ełk route and right after it, the "Fasty" stop. Then we sail to the village of Dzikie. The buildings and fences reach almost to the river itself. You can stock up on supplies in a nearby shop. This is the last village on the Supraśl river on the kayak route.

64.1 km - we sail past the remains of a motor mill, with visible remains of a concrete structure in the river. The Supraśl river flows through a wooded, very nice area. Many trees over the water are protected with a metal mesh against beavers.

68.8 km - the Supraśl river flows into the Narew. To make it possible to drive a car to the kayaks, we need to sail into the Narew and go about 0.5 km upstream. We end the kayak trip in the village of Złotoria on the Narew.
