Kayaks and canoes - Narewka trip

Narewka is a river with a width of 2 to 10 meters and an average depth of about 30 cm. Part of the river within the Białowieża National Park is prohibited for organizing kayak trips.

Narewka trip

Due to the relatively short "navigable" section, Narewka available for kayaks and canoes should be treated as a very interesting extension of the Narew kayak route Narwi.

0.0 km - a place in the Białowieża Forest called "Kosy Most". The trip can start here only after obtaining the consent of the Białowieża National Park management. At the beginning of the trip, we encounter numerous signs of beaver activity, i.e. dams, trees overturned across the current, and feeding grounds. Therefore, especially at low water levels, it happens that this section is difficult to overcome by kayaks and canoes.

4.3 km - we paddle under a small bridge near the village of Gruszki. The river meanders strongly, the width is very variable, from 2 to over 10 meters. Here you can start the Narewka trip, if you plan to stay overnight the day before the trip. This is the highest point on the route, from which you can paddle without additional permission.

8.3 km - a weir in the village of Narewka. It strongly dams the water, so it is necessary to carry the kayaks, best on the left side. This is the only fixed portage on this river. Just behind the weir, on the right side, there is a beach where you can stop and get out to the nearby store for supplies. Here we start the Narewka trip if we don't want to carry kayaks and canoes through the weir or overcome obstacles at low water levels. There is also the possibility of pitching tents and accessing public transportation from Białystok or Hajnówka.

15.2 km - we paddle under a small road bridge near the village of Ochrymy. On the right side, you can see the buildings of the large village of Lewkowo. The river is not very winding here, we paddle for a long time along the buildings. We can stop, get out of the kayaks and do some shopping. We can end the first day of the kayak trip here, but a nicer place to set up camp is 3 km after entering the Narew.

25.0 km - the mouth of the Narewka river to the Narew. The Narew at the mouth of the Narewka is about 8 meters wide. The river has retained its natural character here, so it is relatively winding. If we headed upstream to the right, after 11.7 km we would reach the barrage of the large Siemianówka reservoir. However, we suggest continuing the trip and paddling downstream on the Narew.
